Judy Jackson’s Yeast Rolls

We have a wonderful home feature on Melvin and Judy Jackson in the June 2018 issue of Burleson Now. Known around town for her yeast rolls, Judy wanted to share her recipe with the community. Space didn’t allow for it to be included in the magazine, but here it is for you to enjoy! Bon appétit!

  • 3 pkgs. dried yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 3 tsp. salt
  • 3 Tbsp. shortening, melted
  • 4 cups milk, warm
  • 9 cups flour
  1. Dissolve yeast in warm water. Combine all ingredients. Mix by hand for 10-20 minutes. Mixture should be like a sponge, just firm enough to hold its shape.
  2. Let dough rise until double in size; knead it down. Make rolls or bread loaves; let it rise again.
  3. Bake at 350 F for 30 minutes, until golden brown
